The 232 passengers on board the Air India flight from Delhi to San Francisco, which had to make an emergency landing in the outlying Russian town of Magadan due to an engine malfunction, landed in their destination on Thursday.

In an update on Twitter, Air India said: "Our ferry flight AI195 from Mumbai (BOM) to Magadan, Russia (GDX) is now airborne, and is expected to arrive at GDX at 0630 Hours (local time) on 08 June 2023."

The Air India flight AI173 going to San Francisco from New Delhi had to be diverted to Magadan in Russia due to a technical issue in the engine. The flight landed safely in Russia.

An unruly air passenger can face flying ban for varying periods under the regulations of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). As per the rules, unruly passenger behaviour can be classified into three levels.

After taking over the reins from the government in January last year, Tata Group has put in place various measures to turn around the fortunes of the loss-making carrier Air India, including placing the largest order for 470 planes and expanding international operations.

Following the incident, Air India asked the catering department to advise dry cleaners to check their facilities for any bed bugs infestation and if necessary, carry out fumigation of the facilities as there is a possibility of bugs finding their way into the aircraft through the supplies.

A cabin crew member of the flight had filed a complaint with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) about the pilot allowing a female friend into the cockpit. The incident happened on February 27.

The pilot had allowed a female friend into the cockpit. According to the rules, unauthorised people are not allowed to enter the cockpit and such an entry will be in violation of safety norms. There was no comment from Air India on the incident.
