Air India urination case: Previously, the civil aviation regulator fined Tata-owned Air India Rs 30 lakh and suspended the flight's Pilot-In-Command for three months in connection with the urination case.

"We are examining the directive that the Director General of Civil Aviation issued today. We respectfully recognise the gaps in our reporting and are taking appropriate steps to fix them," an Air India spokesperson said.

On November 26, 2022, a female passenger was on her way from New York to Delhi in an Air India flight and was seated in business class when Shankar Mishra, in an inebriated state, urinated on her, leaving her clothes, seat, and bag all wet.

Last week, Mishra was arrested after the accusations came to light more than a month after the incident in late November. He had been on the run from authorities for days, and had been sacked by US banking giant Wells Fargo.

Air India urination case: "I am not the accused. Someone else must be. It seems she herself urinated. She was suffering from prostate disease, which several kathak dancers appear to have," said the defence lawyer.

A Delhi court on Wednesday denied bail to Shankar Mishra, accused of urinating on an elderly woman co-passenger on an Air India flight, calling the act "utterly disgusting and repulsive".

According to the acquisition agreement signed with the government in January 2022, the airline had to keep the 'terms of employment' for one year. Therefore, the policy can only be implemented in March 2023.

In case of any incident of unruly passengers, passenger rage or passenger misconduct in their flight, the airlines are responsible to inform the DGCA, within 12 hours of landing of the aircraft.

"If the cabin crew department and Air India did not read or react promptly to the report, how can they blame the captain now? De-rostering and giving the captain a show cause notice is completely unfair and ridiculous," said Captain Panesar, ex-pilot and former flight safety and training director.

"The incident on Air India flight AI102 has been a matter of personal anguish to me and my colleagues at Air India. Air India's reaction should have been much faster," said Tata Group Chairman.
