Karnataka Budget 2023:The scheme is expected to encourage livelihood activities like animal husbandry, cottage industry, among others. It is also aimed at reducing the compulsion to work with pregnant women, lactating mothers, women senior citizens and sick women.

Speaking about the state's water resources, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah allocatedRs 20,000 croreand the estimated cost of approved works is five times this allocation.He said, "In the last six months, Rs 25,548 crore worth 1,274 projects were approved."

Siddaramaiah announced the launch of the new Navodyama scheme with a budget of Rs 10 crorefor value addition of agricultural produce and to encourage innovation in the field of agricultural marketing.

In his budget speech, CM Siddaramaiah said that Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has grown at 7.9 percent in 2022-23. He also said that the growth of the economy during the previous regime and the BJP regime, the BJP government failed in ensuring the growth of the State economy.

Karnataka's Bharatiya Janata Party state leaders went into a huddle at the party office in Malleswaram during which the leadership reviewed the state tour programme, internal tensions, and the appointment of a new Leader of Opposition in the legislature. The meeting was attended by State President Nalin Kumar Kateel, Central Parliamentary Board member BS Yediyurappa, Union Minister Prahalad Joshi, and state general secretaries.

This statement by the Deputy Chief Minister comes barely a month after the party formed the government in the state after a thumping election victory. The Congress' win was followed by hard negotiations for several days as both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar wanted the Chief Minister post.

In 2016, the then Siddaramaiah government had proposed to issue 1,725 more licences and allow the sale of cheap liquor (government controlled clean affordable drink in place of banned arrack for low-income groups).

The Karnataka DCM said that the state government is making every attempt to buy rice from other sources and from states that produce it, but that there could be a minor delay in implementing the programme compared to the planned date of July 1.
