Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presented the State budget on July 7, which was the first since Congress came to power in the State following the May 10 elections. This was his record 14th Budget. Speaking about the state's water resources, the average budgetary allocation for the department was Rs 20,000 crore and the estimated cost of approved works is five times this allocation.
Continuing his Budget speech, about 10 irrigation projects with a cost of Rs 940 crore to be taken up, in addition to completing existing projects. He said, "In the last six months, Rs 25,548 crore worth 1,274 projects were approved."

Giving insights about pending works, CM said, "Yettinahole project cost has escalated to Rs 23,252 crore from Rs 12,912 crore. Drinking water to be supplied to Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Ramanagara, Bengaluru Rural and Tumakuru. Our government will take action to complete pending works."
Here's what he said further:
- Minor Irrigation: The second phase of KC Valley and HN Valley treated water scheme to fill 296 tanks of Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts at a cost of Rs 529 crore.
- Necessary action to obtain clearance for Mekedatu project. Land for compensatory afforestation identified and land acquisition will be given priority.
- Central Water Commission has allocated 3.9 TMC for Kalasa and Bandura Nala drinking water project. Necessary forest clearance will be sought to take up the project

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah announced the launch of the new Navodyama scheme with a budget of Rs 10 crore for value addition of agricultural produce and to encourage innovation in the field of agricultural marketing. To facilitate the selling of farmers' food in local, national, and worldwide markets, Rs 10 crore would be made available to promote branding of farmers' produce along the lines of Nandini.
