The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday denied interim protection to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who sought to suspend his conviction and jail term in the 'Modi surname' defamation case.

Asking the Prime Minister to speak about the BJP government's work and future programmes for Karnataka, instead of talking about himself, the former AICC president took a dig at Modi's statement about verbal abuses hurled at him.

The Congress leader alleged that the BJP ministers in Karnataka collected 40 percent commission for public works from contractors and hence, the party would not get more than 40 seats, while the Congress would win 150 seats and form the next government.

'Modi surname' defamation case: After the Surat sessions court turned down his appeal, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi moved the Gujarat High Court challenging his conviction and sentence in a defamation case.
