After several days of decline, the stock market rebounded on Wednesday, March 5. The BSE Sensex closed up 740 points at 73730, and the NSE Nifty closed up 254 points at 22337.

The BSE Sensex started the session 162.63 points higher at 73,152.56, while the Nifty 50 gained 52.85 points, opening at 22,135.50. Market breadth showed 30 Nifty companies advancing, while 20 declined, reflecting cautious optimism among investors.

The Nifty 50 index opened at 22,011.05, marking a decline of 108.25 points (-0.49 per cent), while the BSE Sensex started the session at 72,817.34, down by 268.60 points (-0.37 per cent).

According to report, such prolonged downtrends have been rare in Nifty's history. The last time the index saw a similar five-month losing streak was in 1996. Back then, the Nifty had dropped by approximately 26 per cent over five months, followed by an additional 6.6% decline in December before hitting its lowest point.

Among sectoral indices, all sectors on the NSE opened with gains, with the highest surge seen in Nifty Metal & Auto, which rose more than 1 per cent. Nifty IT was also up by 0.9 per cent, while Nifty Bank opened with marginal gains.

52-Week Low Stocks: The extent of the stock market decline can be gauged from the fact that on February 28, 8 out of the 50 Nifty stocks hit a new 52-week low. Among these, Tata Motors' stock has fallen by almost half from its highest level.
