The benchmark BSE Sensex plunged over 800 points to open at 75,811.12, marking a 1.05 percent decline. Similarly, the NSE Nifty 50 index fell by 182.05 points, opening at 23,150.30, down by 0.78 percent.

At National Stock Exchange (NSE), the stocks of Tata Consumer, Trent, Tech Mahindra, Zomato, ONGC emerged as the major gainers. HUL, HCL Technologies, Dr Reddy's Labs, NTPC and Reliance Industries were the major losers at the NSE at the opening of the trade.

At the time of writing this report, the Sensex was down at 76,090.2, declinig 1,324.71 points or 1.71 per cent, while the Nifty was down at 23,190.55, declining 328.80 points or 1.40 per cent.

The top openers in Nifty 50 include ONGC, BEL, Tata Consumers, NTPC, and Kotak Bank, while the top losers in the opening session were Mahindra & Mahindra, Cipla, and Dr. Reddy's.

The Nifty 50 index opened at 23,422.45, dipping 64.40 points or -0.27 per cent, while the BSE Sensex opened at 77,089.12, losing 199.38 points or -0.26 per cent.
