After nearly a decade of engaging with her followers on the well-known social media network, Gigi Hadid made her reason for leaving Twitter known on her Instagram.

Elon Musk has claimed that he had no choice but to lay off thousands of Twitter employees as the platform was losing as much as $4 million every day. Taking to Twitter, Musk wrote: "Regarding Twitter’s reduction in force, unfortunately there is no choice when the company is losing over $4M/day."

Twitter has started laying off employees in India as part of a global job cut ordered by the social media platform's new owner Elon Musk to attain economies of scale and make the USD 44 billion acquisition viable.

For some people, the website shows, "Something went wrong, but don't fret — let's give it another shot." It has been nearly an hour since the Twitter website is down for some users.

While it is not yet clear what the exact number of layoffs will be, it is estimated that 'about half of Twitter's workers appeared set to lose their jobs'.

Elon Musk and his team of advisers at Twitter have been weighing various scenarios for job cuts and other policy changes, adding that the terms of the headcount reduction could still change. According to sources, laid-off workers would be offered 60 days of severance pay in one scenario under consideration.

Staff at Twitter have been clocking up much longer hours than usual since Elon Musk took over. Twitter managers have told some staff to work 12-hour shifts, seven days a week — equivalent to 84 hours a week — to meet Musk's deadlines, reports said.

Elon Musk has been making waves at Twitter ever since he finalised his acquisition last week. In a series of tweets minutes ago, Chief Twit Elon Musk revealed that its revamped Twitter Blue service will cost $8 (Rs 660) per month with benefits like a verified blue tick badge and lesser ads on the platform.
