Various media reports suggest that the Congress Working Committee (CWC) was miffed over the recent political developments in the crisis-hit state and the conduct of the MLAs of the Gehlot camp.The members have urged Sonia Gandhi to make another such person a candidate who is a senior leader and also loyal to the Gandhi family.

Following a lengthy discussion at minister Shanti Dhariwal's residence in the evening, loyalists marched to speaker CP Joshi's residence, announcing their resignation as MLAs. They claimed that more than 90 MLAs visited Joshi. There are currently 108 members in the House of 200 MLAs.

Prior to meeting Sonia Gandhi,Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday called for uniting all opposition parties, including the Congress and the Left, to take on the BJP.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who has declared his candidacy, is expected to face Shashi Tharoor, who has also declared his intentions by collecting nomination forms on Saturday. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra all declined to contest for party president, putting a non-Gandhi in charge for the first time in more than 24 years.

The upcoming polls would certainly be historic as the new president would replace Sonia Gandhi, the longest-serving party president who has been at the helm since 1998, barring the two years between 2017 and 2019 when Rahul Gandhi took over.

This will be the three parties' first meeting in over five years. Both leaders are in Delhi to attend a rally in Fatehabad district organised by INLD leader OP Chautala to commemorate the birth anniversary of INLD founder late Chaudhary Devi Lal.

Ashok Gehlot has announced that he will be running for the post of Congress president, and added that Rahul Gandhi has made it clear that no one from the Gandhi family should become the party chief.

On Wednesday, Gehlot indicated that he would abide by the wishes of party workers on whether to contest the poll. He, however, had also said that he would make one last-ditch effort to persuade Rahul Gandhi to take up the top post.

The notification issued by the party's Central Election Authority Chairman Madhusudan Mistry as per provisions of Article XVIII of the Indian National Congress Constitution, announced the election of the party president as per the given schedule.

Shashi Tharoor met with Sonia Gandhi on Monday and expressed his intention to contest for AICC president in the upcoming elections. According to sources, the Congress chief has also stated that she will be 'neutral' in the polls. The upcoming elections will undoubtedly be historic, as the new president will take over from Sonia Gandhi, the party's longest-serving leader.
