Shehbaz Sharif, the Leader of the Opposition in Pakistan's National Assembly, stated on Thursday that Imran Khan and the Speaker of the NA will face Article 6 of the Constitution, shortly after Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri dismissed a no-trust resolution against the Prime Minister.

"Absolutely not. Whatever happened today, Army has no role in it," Major General Babar Iftikhar, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), stated when asked if the military played a part in the events that led to the dissolution of the National Assembly.

Addressing the nation, Imran Khan said, "I have written to the President to dissolve the assemblies. There should be elections in a democratic way. I call upon the people to Pakistan to prepare for elections."

To topple Khan's government, the Opposition parties will require the support of 172 members of the National Assembly's 342 members. They claim to have the backing of 177 members, which is more than enough to depose the prime minister.

Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) "lost the majority" in the National Assembly when the coalition's primary supporter, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), switched sides. The MQM said on Wednesday that it had reached an agreement with the opposition Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and would support the no-trust vote in the National Assembly's 342-member chamber.

Khan's security has been tightened up as a result of the government's decision in response to these claims, according to Chaudhry, as cited in the Dawn daily. His remarks come a week after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Faisal Vawda said that a plot was being developed to murder Khan because he refused to "sell the country."

Imran said those asking for his resignation should know that even as a cricketer, he would always fight till the end. That attitude, Imran said, has not changed.

The statement comes after the National Assembly of Pakistan was unexpectedly delayed on Thursday until Sunday as opposition legislators sought an early vote on a no-confidence resolution against beleaguered Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has virtually lost majority in the lower chamber.
