Inspector General of Police Kashmir VK Birdi hailed the operation as a significant achievement, stressing that the militants were responsible for 18 killings, including those of security personnel, civilians, and minorities.

“India’s killing spree has spread to different countries now. From the killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in another country, India has been involved in killings of individuals in Pakistan,” said Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary.

Five security personnel sustained injuries when terrorists fired upon two vehicles, one of which belonged to the Indian Air Force (IAF), in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

According to officials, the confrontation ensued around 8:20 pm when the intruder persistently disregarded warnings and attempted to breach the border from the Pakistani side. Faced with the intruder's determined advancement, BSF personnel resorted to firing, neutralising the threat posed by the infiltrator.

The region has been battered by heavy rainfall, triggering landslides and inundating vast areas. The critical Srinagar-Jammu national highway has remained shut for the past three days due to multiple landslides along its route.

Following the first phase on April 19, the upcoming rounds are set for May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1, counting of votes will be held on June 4, as per the Election Commission of India's (ECI) calendar.

According to officials, 12 children have been successfully rescued from the river and are currently receiving medical care. However, concerns have been raised about the circumstances leading to the overcrowding of the boat and the precise number of children aboard during the incident.
