Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan lost the no-confidence vote in the country's national assembly post-midnight, capping a day that witnessed a series of stunning developments.

The country’s parliament will convene on Saturday to vote on Khan as Prime Minister, following the court’s order. He is expected to lose, which would make him the first Prime Minister of Pakistan to be voted out on a no-trust motion.

Giving its verdict, Pakistan’s apex court said the Prime Minister was bound by the Constitution and therefore, he could not advise the President to dissolve assemblies, Pakistan’s Geo News reported.

A day ago, the President asked the ECP to propose dates for holding the general elections, stating he had to appoint a date, not later than 90 days from the date of dissolution of the National Assembly, for holding the polls.

Russia criticised the US for making “another attempt of shameless interference” into the internal affairs of Pakistan.

As per reports, the senior election commission official stated that the election preparation would require nearly six months.

An announcement in this regard was made by minister Fawad Chaudhry who said Khan took the decision following an approval from the core committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Qasim Suri, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, dismissed the no-trust resolution against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administration on Sunday, calling it a violation of Article 5 of the country's Constitution. Following this, President Arif Alvi dissolved the Assembly on Imran Khan's suggestion. The country will hold new elections within the next 90 days, according to authorities.
