Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court, a day after his plea challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection to the liquor policy case was dismissed by the Delhi High Court.

Rejecting the argument that CM Kejriwal could have been questioned through video conferencing (VC), the court said that it is not up to the accused to decide the manner in which the investigation is conducted.

In response to the petition, the bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, said that the judiciary's role is to uphold the law and ensure consistency in its decisions.

The ED has alleged that Arvind Kejriwal was the main conspirator in the case. The agency claims that Kejriwal, along with others, orchestrated the excise scam to favour certain groups and that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) benefited from the proceeds of the crime

The Congress party has welcomed the Union Government's assurance, presented before the Supreme Court, to withhold coercive actions regarding an income tax demand of approximately Rs 3,500 crore until July 2024, citing the impending Lok Sabha elections.
