India has completed its 75th year of independence. On this particular occasion, we look at India's sporting legends. In terms of cricket, Kapil Dev changed the face of Indian cricket forever.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday said India got freedom after a lot of struggle and needs to be self-reliant. 

Addressing the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort on the 76th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that "when dreams and aspirations are big, bigger efforts and courage are required."

India has had several women compete at the Olympics. Besides winning medals, some have also scripted records at the event, as we present the same ahead of India's 75th Independence Day celebration.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who shared the video on Twitter originally posted by the Consulate General of India in Dubai, remarked that 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' and 'Har Ghar Tiranga' have captured the imagination of the Indian diaspora as well. He said the visuals from Dubai were " gladdening".

Taking part in a special edition of 'Asianet News Samvad' with Suvarna News Editor-in-Chief Ajith Hanumakkanavar, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke at length about the progress that India has achieved in the last 75 years and how, in the last ten years, the country has shifted gears and is at a much more confident position now.

Of the 1,082 police personnel who will be honoured on Independence Day, 648 personnel will receive the Police Medals for Meritorious Service, 347 will get Police Medals for Gallantry and 87 would be awarded President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay has several firsts to her credit. She was one of the first Indian woman to be arrested for fighting for freedom.
