Only recent studies revealed that a large bunch of backward castes and their women were active participants in the first Indian war of Independence in 1857. 

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot said: "This Yatra will help youngsters understand more about their country and its achievements. It will inspire them to dedicate themselves to nation-building. This Yatra will instil a sense of pride in the country among the youth. "

Jamnalal Bajaj was the most prominent industrialist who participated in India's freedom struggle. The founder of India's one of the largest business empires, the Bajaj Group. Jamnalal was even described as his fifth son by Mahatma Gandhi. 

Gandhi decided to bring more women into the freedom struggle. Women had more patience and endurance was Gandhi’s reason.

A group of bold women among the Bengal revolutionaries took arms against the British empire. They are Pritilata Vaddedar, Kalpana Dutta, Bina Das, Kalyani Das, Kamala Dasgupta and Suhasini Ganguli.
