Sri Lanka's main port in Colombo played host to a significant maritime event on Monday, as India's frontline warship 'INS Mumbai' and three warships from the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) made port calls on the same day.

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited Manipur for the first time, assessing security measures and operational preparedness amid the ongoing ethnic conflict in the state. During his 2-day visit, he met with commanders and heads of various security agencies to review the situation and discuss strategies to address the challenges in the region.

The US Department of Defense has approved a $52.8 million deal to sell Anti-Submarine Warfare Sonobuoys and related equipment to India, a significant step in US-India defense cooperation. The announcement came during Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh's 4-day visit to Washington, where he held bilateral defense talks with US counterpart Lloyd Austin.

Through this arrangement, both the countries would be able to acquire the industrial resources they required from one another to resolve unanticipated supply chain disruptions to meet national security needs.

The incident took place during a routine operation when the aircraft unintentionally deployed an air store, which refers to munitions, bombs, or other military equipment carried by the aircraft. The exact type of the air store involved has not been specified.

Apart from holding the bilateral meeting with his counterpart, Rajnath Singh is also scheduled to meet the US Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, Jake Sullivan.

India and Japan held their third 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue in Delhi on August 20, discussing various issues including potential cooperation on maintaining Japanese ships at Indian docks. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and their Japanese counterparts, Kihara Minoru and Kamikawa Yoko, emphasized their shared strategic vision for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific as part of a rules-based international order.
 

In the bilateral talks and 2+2 meeting, the two sides will review the bilateral cooperation and explore new initiatives to further strengthen the engagements among both the countries. 

Coast Guard Director General Rakesh Pal passed away in Chennai on Sunday after suffering chest pain while discussing preparations for Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's visit. He was rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital but unfortunately did not survive, passing away around 7 pm.
