On Thursday, the Congress claimed its senior party leader Pawan Khera was deplaned from a flight to Raipur, where he was going to attend the party's plenary session in Raipur. The Congress also claimed Khera was arrested by Assam Police.

This comment by the state BJP chief comes at a time when BJP-ruled states like Assam had passed a bill to regulate cattle slaughter, transport and sale of beef. Assam CM Sarma filed the criminal defamation complaint against Sisodia in July this year in the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Kamrup district after Sisodia alleged unfair acquisition of PPE kits by the firm operated by Sarma's wife, Riniki Bhuya Sarma. Following the setback, Sisodia has withdrawn his plea to dismiss the defamation action.
