Droupadi Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian honour, on veteran politician Lal Krishna Advani today. President Murmu paid a visit to senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani's residence and conferred him with the prestigious award.

Among the recipients, former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani is the only living awardee. The remaining four—ex-Prime Ministers Chaudhary Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao, eminent agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan, and former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur—were honored posthumously.

RLJP President Pashupati Kumar Paras tendered his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. His exit precedes his candidature announcement for the Hajipur constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

As Parliament gears up to pass only the interim budget for the remaining tenure of the government, the finance minister is expected to present various proposals aimed at garnering support from diverse voting blocs. This strategic move seeks to emphasize the government's intentions and plans should it be reelected.

Highlighting the government's achievements, President Murmu noted a substantial reduction in poverty, with approximately 25 crore people lifted out of poverty during her tenure. She also commended India's ascent to one of the top five economies globally.
