He revealed that a substantial 5,000 cusecs of water have been drained daily since September 13, raising concerns about the depleting water levels in dams such as Hemavati, Harangi, and Kabini.

"While we are speaking Tamil here, Kerala speaks Malayalam. Where does Hindi merge with and empower us? Amit Shah should stop oppressing non-Hindi languages by calling them just regional languages," the Tamil Nadu minister said on micro-blogging platform X.

This decision has sparked protests in Karnataka due to concerns about dwindling water levels in the Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir, affecting local farmers. Tamil Nadu has insisted on receiving its allocated water, increasing the water-sharing dispute. The Supreme Court is scheduled to address this issue on September 21.
