Foodtech company Swiggy has fired 380 employees in a bid to rationalise business amid a tough venture funding market, said a company spokesperson. The decision, which affects around 3 percent of its 6,000-strong staff, was communicated to employees at a town hall on January 20.

In association with Oxford University, the Fairwork India Team was spearheaded by the Centre for IT and Public Policy (CITAPP), International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B).

According to Swiggy, Biryani topped the chart of most ordered dishes this year. This is the seventh time in a row that the dish has topped the chart.The report also revealed that Biryani set a new record with 2.28 orders per second.

A viral video posted by Swati Maliwal, Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, shows a specially-abled Swiggy agent delivering food in a wheelchair.

Ko Sesha tweeted that he found chicken pieces in the vegetarian food he ordered from The Bowl Company via Swiggy. He shared the entire incident on Twitter, expressing his outrage that the food-delivery app agreed to compensate him with only Rs 70.

Under certain conditions, the moonlighting policy permits employees to work second jobs outside their primary job's normal business hours.

The firm stated in a statement that the decision was made based on team needs and input from various managers and workers who attested to the freedom and enhanced productivity working from home has offered them over the past two years.

A video of a Swiggy delivery executive waiting helplessly in the pouring rain at a traffic signal on his bike to deliver orders to the customers is going viral, and netizens are left emotional after watching the video and praise him for his dedication.

"We have a rigorous transition and closure strategy in place to minimise the impact on our users, as well as brand and vendor partners. We will continue to service people in Bangalore and increase our efforts here," stated Swiggy co-founder and CEO Phani Kishan Addepalli.

Swiggy claimed in a blog post that a delivery partner will then pick up purchases from the 'common point' and deliver them to the client. Swiggy's grocery delivery service Instamart will be evaluated using drones in a test programme.
