NitishRana has been named captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for IPL 2023 in place of Shreyas Iyer, who is likely to undergo back surgery and is in danger of missing the entire season.

Indian batting star Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match ODI series against Australia due to a recurrence of a lower-back injury. The KKR captain is likely to miss IPL 2023 as well.

Besides the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, Shreyas Iyer could also miss the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders, a franchise he leads in the cash-rich league.

On Tuesday, the BCCI said in a statement that Shreyas Iyer had been cleared by its medical team and would join the Test squad in Delhi.

IND vs AUS 2022-23: During the opening Nagpur Test for the Border-Gsavaskar Trophy between India and Australia on February 9, with Shreyas Iyer out with injury, his spot would be competed for by Shubmna Gill and Suryakumar Yadav.

ICC Team of 2022 has been announced across formats. On the Test side, Rishabh Pant is the only Indian to have made it across, while in the ODIs, Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Siraj have earned their place.

Terming it unfortunate, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said Ishan Kishan would get a share of chances as they have 15 ODIs and the Asia Cup lined up before the ICC World Cup 2023 in October-November.
