Tensions escalated in Bangladesh on Tuesday as several hundred protesters attempted to storm the presidential palace, demanding the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

India on Thursday confirmed that former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, ousted from power amid a wave of student-led protests, will continue to reside in the country under safety reasons.

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Thursday issued arrest warrants against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 45 others, including top Awami League leaders, in connection with alleged crimes against humanity committed during the July-August uprising, country media reported.

He was treated at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital and is still recovering.

Farokul Islam, identified as a cadre of student wing of Jamaat-e-Islamiin Bangladesh, has been reportedly attacking women with a stick if found alone or not dressed in a burqa or hijab, stirring outrage across social media platforms.

The interim government in Bangladesh, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, is intensifying efforts to bring back ousted ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India after being forced out of office on August 5 due to a mass uprising.
