Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting in Ganjam, Odisha, wherein he announced key dates, including the expiry of the Biju Janata Dal government on June 4, the declaration of BJP's chief ministerial candidate on June 6, and the swearing-in ceremony in Bhubaneswar on June 10.

Multiple regions in India are currently experiencing severe weather conditions, including heat waves and rain alerts. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heat waves in Rajasthan, Western Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra, Kutch, as well as scorching temperatures in Jharkhand, Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of severe heat waves across multiple regions until May 5, with temperatures soaring in various parts of the country. Gangetic West Bengal and certain areas of Bihar are expected to experience intense heat.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued warnings for six states, including Karnataka, due to heavy heat for the next five days. East Indian states like West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar are also bracing for intense heat. High temperatures and humidity levels are expected, with deviations of 4.5 to 6.4 degrees above average considered extreme.

India conducted a successful flight test of the Nirbhay indigenous technology cruise missile (ITCM) featuring the indigenous Manik turbofan engine. Developed by DRDO's Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), the missile demonstrated low-altitude sea-skimming flight and reliable performance of the indigenous propulsion system, marking a significant milestone in Indian defence R&D.

Areas likely impacted include parts of Odisha, Bengal, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Telangana. The present heat in Kolkata is fairly strong, with temperatures feeling closer to 44-45 degrees Celsius due to abnormally high humidity this time of year.

Special Observers, both in general and police capacities, have been deployed in states with large populations, including West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Bihar.

India is set to experience extreme heat during the April to June period, with the central and western peninsular parts expected to face the worst impact, the IMD said on Monday as the country prepares for seven-phase general elections from April 19.
