The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly criticized senior Congress leader Kamal Nath for his disparaging remarks about North Eastern states during an election rally in Madhya Pradesh. Kamal Nath allegedly referred to a Dalit woman as "an item" and made derogatory comments about Mizoram and Tripura.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) confirmed that all 40 assembly seats in Mizoram will witness voting on November 7, with the vote counting slated for December 3. Notably, the term of the Mizoram legislative assembly is set to conclude on December 17, 2023.

On October 12, Lalrinliana Sailo, the Mizoram Assembly Speaker and MNF leader, took the significant step of resigning as an MLA with plans to join the BJP. This decision comes as a result of Sailo being denied a ticket by the ruling MNF party for the impending Assembly election in Mizoram.
