On Sunday, the UDP and PDF extended their support to the NPP to form a government in the state. It can be seen that the NPP emerged as the single largest party in Meghalaya by winning 26 seats out of 59. The BJP bagged only two seats. The NPP formed a post-poll alliance with the BJP.

The Meghalaya Congress president said he will not be hosting big rallies in the Sutnga-Saipung constituency from where he is contesting the Assembly election.

There is an 'apprehension that the violence may spread and intensify if left unattended' and it may result in destruction of property and loss of lives, said an order issued by the local administration.

Rio will lead an all-party opposition-less government, even as the NDPP-BJP alliance secured 37 seats in the 60-member House in the recent assembly polls in the northeastern state. All other parties in the state have extended their letters of support to the Rio-led alliance.

Addressing an event in Shillong, Rahul Gandhi said, "You know the history of the TMC - the violence and scams that take place in West Bengal. You are aware of their tradition. They spent a huge amount of money in Goa (polls) and the idea was to help the BJP."
