During the 2018 Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, polling took place on November 28, and the results were officially announced on December 11. The Congress secured the most seats, with 114, two shy of a majority in the 230-member assembly.

The BJP had begun announcing its candidates for the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections in advance. The first list of 39 candidates was unveiled on August 17, followed by a second list on September 25.

Bharat Soni was arrested on Thursday in connection with the case and is currently in custody. It is reportedly said that his family had been residing in the house, constructed on government land, for several years, according to the Ujjain Municipal Corporation.

Bharat Soni, the accused, typically returned home from work around 2-3 am. However, on that fateful Monday morning, he arrived even later. Disturbingly, conversations at home included discussions about the rape incident, with Bharat inquiring about its location before heading off to work.

Inspector Ajay Verma from Mahakal police station in Ujjain revealed that he would have even considered adopting the girl had her family not been located. He recounted being deeply moved to tears as he heard the girl's cries during her hospital treatment.
