Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren won the floor test in the assembly on Monday after 47 coalition MLA supported him. This crucial floor test came days after former Chief Minister Hemant Soren's arrest in a money laundering case by the Enforcement Directorate.

Jharkhand floor test: “I proudly say that I am part-2 of Hemant Soren," said Jharkhand CM Champai Soren as he addressed the State Assembly ahead of the Floor Test of his government. Champai Soren was administered the oath of office by Governor CP Radhakrishnan on February 2, over 24 hours after Hemant Soren stepped down from the top post.

Jailed Hemant Soren on Monday addressed the Jharkhand assembly, and claimed that the "Raj Bhavan" is also involved in his January 31 arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged land scam.

The Jharkhand Assembly is undergoing a crucial 'floor test' today as the recently appointed Champai Soren government sought to prove its majority. Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan said, "We've to complete our duty in an unbiased manner and that has been done and every democratic norm has been followed strictly and Raj Bhavan is for that."

Following Hemant Soren's resignation, JMM leader Champai Soren was elected as the leader of the legislature party and invited to form a government by Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan.

With Champai Soren assuming the Chief Minister's office, a crucial floor test looms ahead. The new CM is required to demonstrate his majority within the next 10 days. Expressing confidence, Champai Soren stated that they have the support of 43 MLAs in the assembly.

Senior Advocates Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Soren, argued that the matter involves the arrest of a chief minister, and the Supreme Court has concurrent powers to hear the case.

The ED alleges that Soren is the primary beneficiary in land-related irregularities in Ranchi. It claims that a network of brokers and businessmen created fake deeds of land parcels by forging records in registrar offices and then sold them off.
