The deadly train accident in Odisha has resulted in a number of trains being either cancelled or diverted. If you are travelling in this section, do check with the Railways Train Enquiry before leaving home.

"We were jolted and suddenly saw the train bogie turn on one side. Many of us were thrown out of the compartment by the momentum of the derailment. When we managed to crawl out, we found bodies lying all around," a Coromandel Express passenger said

The accident happened around 7.20 pm near Bahanaga Bazar station when the Coromandel Express was on the way to Chennai Central station from Shalimar station near Kolkata.

Railway officials suspect sabotage. It is suspected that a fuel like petrol was poured in the coach and set on fire. It was the same train that caught fire in Elathur. The fire started after the journey ended in Kannur at night.

The Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat train will cover the distance of 500 km between Howrah and Puri, the abode of Lord Jagannath, in around six and a half hours. The regular run of the 22895/22896 Howrah-Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express will commence from 20 May.

Due to engineering work at Thrissur Yard and between the Aluva-Angamaly Section of Thiruvananthapuram, Southern Railway has cancelled 8 major trains for May 20, 21, and 22.

An RTI revealed that a total of 1.76 crore Passenger Name Record (PNR) numbers, against which 2.72 crore passengers were scheduled to travel, were automatically cancelled due to being waitlisted.
