On May 9, violent protests erupted after the arrest of Imran Khan by paramilitary Rangers in Islamabad. His party workers vandalised over 20 military installations and government buildings, including the Lahore Corps Commander House, Mianwali airbase and the ISI building in Faisalabad.

The cases were registered in different police stations of Islamabad against 70-year-old Khan after clashes erupted between police and his supporters when the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party chief appeared before a court in the Judicial Complex on March 18.

The search operation comes hours after Punjab Police obtained warrants to conduct a detailed search at Khan's residence. Punjab information minister Amir Mir said hundreds of policemen will conduct the search operation, the Dawn newspaper reported.

On May 9, a large number of Imran Khan’s party workers May 9 stormed the Jinnah House and set it on fire after vandalising it. He was arrested just a day after he accused the powerful army of plotting to assassinate him.

Recalling the recent violent protests in the country following the arrest of ousted prime minister Khan, Mir alleged that "The PTI leadership had planned the attack before the arrest [of Imran Khan]."

Former prime minister Imran Khan's arrest by the Rangers at the Islamabad High Court premises last Tuesday triggered unrest in Pakistan that continued till Friday and led to several deaths and dozens of military and state installations being destroyed by the protesters.
