Facebook's parent company Meta has been battling soaring costs and a weak advertising market and is the latest of tech giants to announce a downsizing. It has announced a mega lay off as it has cut 13 per cent of its workforce, or more than 11,000 employees, in one of the biggest tech layoffs this year.

After weeks of speculation, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced massive layoff at Meta. The company, which runs Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, is letting go of 11,000 employees, or around 13 per cent of total headcount.

Meta has been struggling financially for months and has been cutting costs more and more. This year, Meta shares have fallen 73 per cent, to their lowest level since early 2016, and the Silicon Valley behemoth is now the worst performer in the S&P 500 in 2022.

The minister highlighted that the Grievance Redressal Mechanism of social media intermediaries is broken and that the government had received millions of testimonies from Internet users in India about their grievances not being addressed.

Amit Malviya claims that the media outlet did not apologise to him even while retracting the articles. 'The Wire refrained from apologising to me despite maligning and tarnishing my reputation and causing serious harm to my professional career,' he said.

Online tool Down Detector started noticing unusually high "problem reports" at 12:07 pm, and had listed thousands of such reports by 1 pm in India, WhatsApp's biggest market by user base. Most reports were about messages not going through, at 69 per cent, while others reported server disconnection and the app crashing altogether.

WhatsApp's services across many parts of India were disrupted on Tuesday as thousands of users were unable to send or receive messages on the Meta-owned platform.

The tool allows group admins to automatically quarantine new posts tagged as containing false information and previously posted claims that were later proven false, according to Facebook.
