It is nearly a 40 per cent from the day ago, as infections soared sharply in states like Maharashtra and Kerala. Maharashtra registered 2,701 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday, the highest number in over four months, with no fatalities.

On Sunday, Mumbai reported 961 new cases, bringing the state total to 1494.

Approximately 350,000 people had shown signs of the fever, including 18,000 who reported such symptoms on Tuesday alone. So far, around 162,200 of them have been treated, but it is unclear how many have tested positive for COVID-19.
