The R-value indicates the number of persons to whom an infected person can spread the disease. If this value falls below one, the epidemic is believed to be over.

According to the INSACOG's January 10 report, which was posted on Sunday, while the majority of Omicron cases thus far have been asymptomatic or moderate, hospitalizations and ICU cases have increased in the current wave, and the threat level remains stable.

Registering a significant surge, Karnataka reported 47,754 new cases of COVID-19, and 29 deaths, raising the tally to 33,76,953 and the death toll to 38,515 on Thursday.

According to Agarwal, Omicron has a large growth advantage over Delta, and statistics from South Africa, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Denmark suggest that Omicron has a reduced risk of hospitalisation than Delta.
