During his visit to Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had urged individuals to turn in their weapons to the security forces and administration. He also cautioned that a search-and-combing operation would be conducted soon, and possessing any weapon would result in prosecution.

Home Minister Amit Shah, who is currently visiting Manipur as part of efforts to bring back peace in the ethnic violence-hit state, on Tuesday said the government's top priority is peace and prosperity in the state.

Tension prevailed in Manipur on Monday morning after 48 hours of clashes and gunfire between militants and security forces that reportedly saw 35 deaths, which included 30 Kuki militants.

Two days ago, Union Home Minister Amit Shah appealed to people to maintain peace and tranquillity and said: "There were clashes in Manipur after the verdict of a court. I would appeal to both groups that they should maintain peace, and justice will be done with everyone."

Officials said the bill to amendment the Registration of Birth and Death Act (RBD), 1969, will also facilitate matters related to the issuance of driving licence and passport and giving benefits of the government welfare schemes to people besides others.

The Shiv Sena leader also said that the state showed people can defeat dictatorship and asked where the riots are that Amit Shah was claiming would occur if Congress comes to power.
