A US-Israeli airstrike destroyed a major bridge near Tehran, causing casualties and severing a key transport route. The US acknowledged the strike, warning of further action. While the US claimed the bridge was a military target, Iran condemned the attack on civilian infrastructure.
A major escalation in the ongoing Middle East conflict unfolded after a US-Israeli strike destroyed a key bridge in Karaj, near Iran’s capital Tehran. The targeted structure, reportedly one of Iran’s largest and most significant infrastructure projects, was hit in a precision airstrike that left multiple casualties and caused extensive damage.

According to reports, at least eight people were killed and dozens injured as the strike caused a dramatic collapse of the bridge, severing a crucial transport link between Tehran and surrounding regions. The attack marks one of the most significant hits on civilian infrastructure since the conflict began, signalling a shift in strategy toward high-impact targets.
US President Donald Trump publicly acknowledged the strike, sharing visuals of the destruction and issuing a stark warning to Tehran. He said “more to follow” if Iran does not agree to a settlement, escalating rhetoric amid already heightened tensions. His remarks come days after he threatened to target broader infrastructure, including bridges and power plants, as part of the campaign.

The US has justified the strike by claiming the bridge was being used to transport military equipment, including missile and drone components. However, Iranian authorities have strongly condemned the attack, accusing the US and its allies of targeting civilian infrastructure and escalating the humanitarian crisis.
The strike has further intensified fears of retaliation. Iran has reportedly drawn up a list of strategic targets across the Gulf in what officials describe as a potential “tit-for-tat” response.
The broader conflict, which began with coordinated US-Israeli strikes in February, has already caused widespread destruction across Iran, with civilian sites such as schools, hospitals, and residential areas also affected.
As tensions continue to rise, the destruction of the Karaj bridge underscores the growing scale of the conflict and raises concerns about further attacks on critical infrastructure, increasing the risk of a wider regional war.
