US President Donald Trump made 13-year-old Devarjaye 'DJ' Daniel the youngest US Secret Service Officer during his joint address to Congress on Tuesday.

US President Donald Trump ordered Secret Service Director Sean Curran to make 13-year-old DJ Daniel, who has "always dreamed of becoming a police officer," an agent of the Secret Service.

Daniel, who has a rare form of brain and spinal cancer, was present at Capitol Hill and stumped as US Secret Service Director Sean Curran presented him with an honorary badge.

"Tonight, DJ, we're going to do you the biggest honour of them all," Trump declared. "I am asking our new Secret Service Director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States Secret Service."

The chamber erupted in applause, and more than a dozen Democrats joined Republicans in a rare moment of unity, rose to their feet to celebrate DJ. His father, overcome with emotion, lifted DJ into the air as the House gallery chanted his name: "DJ! DJ!"

Secret Service Director Curran then approached the young boy, and handed him an official badge as the cheers continued. DJ, beaming, hugged Curran in gratitude.

As DJ sat in the gallery, Trump shared his story, revealing that he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2018 and was given just five months to live. But against all odds, DJ fought on, never letting go of his dream of becoming a police officer.

DJ Daniel, who hails from Texas and has battled cancer for years, has a keen interest in law enforcement and dreams of becoming a police officer. In December last year, he was sworn in as an honorary Jasper police officer and received a key to the city.
