  • A few other cases were pending against the accused and therefore their bail was rejected

On April 24, one of the security guards of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's Kodanad estate, Om Bahadur Thapa, was found murdered. The murderers also seemed to have broken the windows and robbed the premises. Following this, 10 suspects from Kerala were arrested.

Meanwhile, in the Ooty district court, an advocate named Ravichandran has requested bail on behalf of Sameer Ali, Jithan Joy and Manoj Saamy.

The petition stated “We perform special rituals to get rid of evil forces in houses in Kerala. We were asked to perform one such ritual in the Kodanad bungalow. The pooja was performed before the murder but the policemen have arrested us just because we were there before the murder. We are in no way connected with this murder. Hence, we request a bail on this ground."

The bail was rejected as few other cases against these suspects awaited hearing in the Kerala Court.
