The Indian Army facilitated the return of the mortal remains of two youths who had gone missing from Uri Tehsil in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir (J-K).

A Delhi Court on Friday dismissed the bail application of Lok Sabha MP from Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla, Engineer Rashid, in a terror funding case.

In a significant operation that unfolded over the weekend, security forces neutralized three terrorists in the Baramulla district, with one incident purportedly captured on camera.

Three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir. This incident comes as the region prepares for Assembly elections and a visit from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be campaigning for his party's candidates.

Jammu and Kashmir erupted in patriotic celebrations as the region embraced India's 78th Independence Day with unprecedented enthusiasm, sparking a wave of reactions on social media on Thursday.

“I think it’s time to accept the inevitable. Congratulations to Engineer Rashid for his victory in North Kashmir..,” tweeted JKNC vice-president and Baramulla Lok Sabha candidate Omar Abdullah.Rashid, 57, who is in Tihar jail for five years, contested the election as an independent candidate.

The region has been battered by heavy rainfall, triggering landslides and inundating vast areas. The critical Srinagar-Jammu national highway has remained shut for the past three days due to multiple landslides along its route.

One of the major players which is a factor in deciding the election results is the minority vote bank. There are only 5 such constituencies where only Muslim candidates have won. These include West Bengal's Murshidabad, Assam's Dhubri, Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla, Kerala's Malappuram and union territory Lakshadweep.

The Army's Chinar Corps posted an update on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating that three terrorists had attempted to infiltrate into Indian territory but were met with vigilant troops.

A day prior to this encounter, authorities uncovered a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror module in Baramulla, leading to the arrest of two militant associates and the recovery of arms and ammunition.
