Indian wrestling suffered yet another heartbreak at the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday. In the 86kg bronze medal playoff, Deepak Punia lost his clash to San Marino's Myles Amine 4-2.
It was a positive start from the Indian, who was leading 2-1 for most of the match. Also, he seemed to be working well with his defence.

However, in the closing stages of the final round, the San Mariner grabbed hold of Punia's right leg, leading to a takedown in the closing seconds of the match. With hardly any time left to make a comeback, it was a thrilling 4-2 win for Amine.
Punia had a great outing, considering a favourable draw, as he outlasted Ekerekeme Agiomor of Nigeria in the pre-quarters, followed by Lin Zushen of China in the quarters. However, in the semis, he succumbed to David Taylor of the United States of America.
