Joe Root's stay at the crease came to an end after he was removed by Ravindra Jadeja in the 43rd over of England’s batting in the second ODI.

Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja got the better of Joe Root again in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series against England at the Barabati Stadium in Odisha’s Cuttack on Sunday, February 9.

Joe Root was looking in a good rhythm as he scored his first ODI fifty for the first time since the ODI World Cup league stage match against Pakistan in 2023. The former England captain looked well set to end his 5-year century in the shorter format. However, Root's stay at the crease came to an end after he was removed by Ravindra Jadeja in the 43rd over of England’s batting. England’s talismanic batter stepped away as Jadeja bowled a full delivery. Root tried to chip it but didn’t keep down as Virat Kohli at long-off takes an easy catch.

Talking about the match, England skipper Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to bat first against India. The openers Ben Duckett and Phil Salt gave an excellent start to the visitors' innings with a 81-run stand. Duckett played an innings of 65 off 56 balls. Apart from Duckett and Joe Root, Harry Brook and Jos Buttler contributed with innings of 31 and 34, respectively.

The middle-order batter Liam Livingstone’s vital knock of 41 off 32 balls helped England go past the 300-run mark. Eventually, England were bundled out for 304 in 49.5 overs and set a 305-run target for India to chase.

Ravindra Jadeja picked three wickets in second ODI

Ravindra Jadeja has once again led Team India’s bowling as he picked three wickets while conceding just 35 runs at an economy rate of 3.5 in 10 overs. He was the most economical bowler for India in the first innings as the rest of bowlers had an economy rate of over 5. In the last match, Jadeja registered figures of 3/26 at an economy rate of 2.9 in nine overs.

Apart from Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana, and Mohammed Shami too chipped in by taking a wicket.

India will look to seal the series when they chase down a 305-run target set by England in Cuttack.
