India were at 48/1 in 6.1 overs in 305-run chase against England when one of the floodlights at the Barabati Stadium went off completely.
The ongoing second ODI of the three-match series between India and England has been suspended temporarily due to the failure of one of the floodlights at the Barabati Stadium in Odisha’s Cuttack on Sunday, February 9.
After bundling out England for 304 in 49.5 overs and India were chasing down a 305-run target. The openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave the hosts a brilliant start to their innings and posted a total of 48/0 in 6.1 overs before the match had to be halted due to one of the stadium's floodlights going off. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill had a word with on-field J Mandanagopal, while England pacer Saqib Mahmood expressed his frustration over repeated failure of floodlights in the match.
Talking about the match, England skipper Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to bat first against India. The openers Ben Duckett and Phil Salt gave an excellent start to the visitors' innings with a 81-run stand. Duckett played an innings of 65 off 56 balls. Joe Root was the top-scorer for the side as he scored 69 off 72 balls. Apart from Duckett and Joe Root, Harry Brook and Jos Buttler contributed with innings of 31 and 34, respectively.
The middle-order batter Liam Livingstone’s vital knock of 41 off 32 balls helped England go past the 300-run mark. Eventually, England were bundled out for 304 in 49.5 overs and set a 305-run target for India to chase.
For India, Ravindra Jadeja has once again led Team India’s bowling as he picked three wickets while conceding just 35 runs at an economy rate of 3.5 in 10 overs. Apart from Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana, and Mohammed Shami too chipped in by taking a wicket.

After the floodlights were fixed, India resumed their run–chase against England in the second ODI at the Barabati Stadium. Since the openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave the hosts’ an excellent start to their innings, the pair will look to maintain the same momentum.
India are eyeing to seal the three-match ODI series after winning the opening match at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur on Friday. In the first ODI, the Men in Blue chased down a 249-run target in 38.4 overs. Shubman Gill led the batting with a knock of 87 off 96 balls. Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel contributed with an innings of 59 and 52 respectively,
After the conclusion of the second ODI, India and England will travel to Ahmedabad to play the third and final match of the ODI series at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday, February 12.
