Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali revive Bangladesh’s batting after early collapse

After Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto opted to bat first after winning the toss, the side suffered an early collapse as they were 35/5 in 8.3 overs, leaving them in a precarious position. Bangladesh were in a dire need of the batters who can turn the game around until Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali stepped up for the side in crucial situations.

Jaker Ali got a reprieve after Rohit Sharma dropped his catch that denied Axar Patel’s hat-trick. Hridoy and Ali frustrated the Indian bowlers with their resilience and gritty performances to steady Bangladesh’s innings. The pair took Bangladesh past the 100-run mark in the 29th over and continued their partnership.

Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali formed a crucial 154-run partnership for the sixth wicket until the latter’s stay at the crease came to an end after he was dismissed by Shami for 68 off 114 balls at 189/6. Thereafter, Hridoy was joined by Rishad Hossian at the crease and the pair took the team past 200-run mark before the latter was dismissed for 16 at 214/7.
