Subramanian Swamy has a solution for the Cauvery issue

All the riots, hatred and genuine problems of the farmers of both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu regarding Cauvery water can be ended amicably, courtesy Subramanian Swamy!

So, what is the solution given by Subramanian Swamy?

He says: Don’t fight, use sea water instead. Here is his tweet on the issue: 

If Swamy’s advice is to be taken seriously, let us have a look at what desalination is exactly?

According to American Membrane Technology Association, Water desalination separates salts and other minerals from large amounts of water.  This water can be brackish, seawater, wastewater, industrial feed and process waters. 

The Association notes: "As such, the technology is energy intensive, and research is continually evolving to improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption."

But the costs of desalinating sea water (infrastructure, energy, and maintenance) are higher than fresh water from rivers or groundwater, water recycling, and water conservation, says the International Desalination Association.

Currently, approximately only one percent of the world's total population is dependent on desalinated water to meet their daily needs.
