A 20-year-old BSc student from Dharwad allegedly died by suicide after being detained in a ganja case despite testing negative. Reports claim police demanded money, raising serious allegations of extortion. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
A deeply distressing incident has been reported from Dharwad district, where a 20-year-old student allegedly died by suicide over fear of damage to his reputation. The deceased, identified as Aditya Myageri, was found hanging at his residence in Girinagar. He was a BSc student at Kittel College.

Police Custody And Drug Test
According to reports, Vidyagiri police had detained Aditya last Saturday on suspicion of ganja consumption. He was among more than 40 youths taken into custody during the operation. However, his test report later came back negative.
Allegations Of Extortion
It is alleged that despite the negative test result, police demanded money from Aditya. Initially, ₹10,000 was reportedly sought, which was later reduced to ₹2,000. The incident allegedly left the student deeply disturbed and concerned about his reputation.
Student Ends Life At Home
Feeling humiliated and distressed, Aditya allegedly took his own life at his residence. The incident has triggered shock and grief in the local community.
Mother’s Emotional Outburst
The student’s mother has made serious allegations against the police, claiming they were responsible for her son’s death.
“The police are the reason for my son’s death,” she said while breaking down in tears outside the mortuary where the body was kept.

There are also allegations that police demanded between ₹25,000 and ₹30,000 from other youths who tested positive in the ganja test. It is further alleged that payments were collected through PhonePe or intermediaries, and that threats of implicating individuals in other cases were issued if payment was not made.

Following these allegations, parents and locals have demanded strict action against the officials involved. The incident has sparked widespread concern and calls for a fair and transparent investigation into the matter.
