Goa Election 2022 Result LIVE: BJP set to score hat-trick; Congress accepts failure

"Out of 19 seats in North Goa, 10 seats have been won by candidates of BJP, 6 seats have been won by Indian National Congress and one each by MGP, Revolutionary Goans Party, and an Independent candidate," says Ajit Roy, North Goa collector.

Veteran party leader P Chidambaram, who had earlier tweeted about his presence in the state for the big day, said that Congress accepts the verdict of the people of Goa. 

"Our candidates fought bravely, despite several obstacles. People have voted BJP to power, and we accept that. In several constituencies, we lost with very small margins," Chidambaram stated.

"Disappointed by the results, expected a better situation. We'll continue to be a responsible Opposition & take up issues aggressively. The Opposition has an important role, in and outside State Assembly," says Congress Goa in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao.

"The results of 5 states have come against the expectations of the Congress party but we accept that we failed to get the blessings of the people. Sonia Gandhi has decided to convene Congress Working Committee meeting soon to introspect the results," says Congress leader RS Surjewala.

BJP candidate Atanasio Monserrate & his wife Jeniffer Monserrate have won from Panaji and Taleigao constituency. BJP’s Vishwajit Rane and his wife Deviya Vishwajit Rane won from Valpoi and Poriem Assembly constituency.

“I don’t know, it’s a sensitive question,” says BJP leader Vishwajit Rane on being asked if Pramod Sawant will continue as the CM.

Goa BJP President Sadanand Tanavade speaks exclusively to Asianet News; says the saffron party will form government in the coastal state after bagging support of independent candidates.

“Lead is not everything. The final results are yet to come. We will form the next government with the help of other political parties and Independents,” says Goa Pradesh Congress Committee’s working president Aleixo Sequeira.

"People of Goa have given us a clear majority. We will get 20 seats or even 1-2 seats more. People have shown faith in PM Modi. Independent candidates are coming with us. MGP is also coming with us and taking all together, we will form our govt," says BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis.

Independent candidate from Cortalim, Manuel Vaz and from Curtorim, Alexio Reginaldo extend support to BJP.

Congress leader Michael Lobo said, “We had thought that we will win but we have to accept the people’s mandate. We have got 12 seats, BJP has got 18 seats. We will work strongly as the opposition. Congress will have to work hard to win the confidence of people.”

Those who want to join us, will come forward and we will take them along," says Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, adding all three wining Independents have declared their support to the saffron party.

Dr Chandrakant Shetye, an independent candidate from the Bicholim constituency in Goa has declared support to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has won the Sanquelim Assembly seat. As per latest numbers, the BJP leader has secured 11561 votes so far, over 400 votes more than Congress' Dharmesh Saglani.

After AAP won its first two seats in the coastal state, party chief Arvind Kejriwal congratulated both Captain Venzy Viegas and Engineer Cruz Silva.

AAP caims first victories in Goa, Venzy Viegas in Benaulim and Cruz Silva in Velim.
