EAM Jaishankar to represent Govt of India at US President-elect Donald Trump's swearing-in ceremony

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday confirmed that Dr. S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister (EAM) of India, will represent the Government of India at the swearing-in ceremony of US President-Elect Donald J. Trump. The event, scheduled for January 20, 2025, marks the commencement of Trump’s second term as the 47th President of the United States.

Dr. Jaishankar’s visit comes at the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee. In addition to attending the inauguration, the External Affairs Minister is expected to meet with key representatives from the incoming US Administration, as well as dignitaries visiting the US for the occasion.

"On the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar will represent the Government of India at the Swearing-In Ceremony of President-Elect Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America," the MEA statement read.

"During the visit, EAM will also have meetings with representatives of the incoming Administration, as also some other dignitaries visiting the US on that occasion," the statement added.

Trump’s Inauguration: A Historic Day

The 60th Presidential Inauguration Ceremony will take place on January 20, 2025, coinciding with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a US national holiday. This marks the first time since 1997 that Inauguration Day aligns with the significant date, making it a historic occasion.

The ceremony will begin at 12 p.m. ET, with Trump taking the oath of office on the West Front of the US Capitol in Washington, D.C. The day will follow the traditional sequence of events, including Trump’s inaugural address to the nation, a signing ceremony in the President’s Room, an inaugural luncheon with distinguished guests, and a grand Presidential Parade down Pennsylvania Avenue.

The day will culminate with inaugural balls, where Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are expected to make their appearances, marking the celebratory spirit of the occasion.
