The incident has fueled further tension between the two political parties and brought into focus the critical issue of women's safety and the need for prompt and appropriate action in such cases.

Amidst the ongoing political tensions, an incident involving two tribal women in West Bengal's Malda district has sparked a heated debate. The BJP accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of failing to ensure women's safety in the state after the women were allegedly stripped naked and assaulted while the police reportedly stood by as mere spectators. The incident occurred at the Pakua Hat (weekly market) in Bamangola on July 19.

In response, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) countered the allegations, claiming that the women were targeted by public outrage after being caught stealing. This explanation provided by the TMC aims to contextualize the incident and shift the blame away from the state's administration.

The incident has fueled further tension between the two political parties and brought into focus the critical issue of women's safety and the need for prompt and appropriate action in such cases.

It is reportedly said that the incident unfolded when five tribal women from the Manikchak area visited the market to sell their locally crafted products. However, things took a distressing turn when it was alleged that these women were caught attempting to steal from other female vendors.

In the midst of the chaos that ensued, three of the women managed to flee, but unfortunately, two of them were apprehended by the irate vendors and subjected to physical assault.

BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya expressed his shock and outrage by sharing a video clip of the incident. In his statement, he revealed the disturbing details of the ordeal, stating that two tribal women were subjected to a horrific experience in the Pakua Hat area of Bamangola Police Station, Malda.

According to Malviya, the women were stripped naked, brutally tortured, and mercilessly beaten, all while the police allegedly stood by as silent witnesses to the heinous act. The incident has sparked widespread concern and calls for action to address the issue of women's safety in the region.

In a tweet, Malviya said, "The horrific incident took place on the morning of 19th July. The women belonged to a socially marginalised community and had a frenzied mob baying for her blood… It had all the making of a tragedy that should have 'broken' Mamata Banerjee's heart and she, instead of merely outraging, could have acted, since she is also the home minister of Bengal."

"But she chose to do nothing. Neither did she condemn the barbarity nor did she express pain and anguish because it would have exposed her own failing as a chief minister," he added.
