Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a "democratic leader, and added that even his opponents would admit that the Modi government's Union Cabinet has never functioned in such a democratic way. Rejecting claims that Modi is an authoritarian leader, Shah stated that he has yet to meet a "patient listener," like the prime minister, who values any worthwhile recommendations made by anyone, regardless of their title or position in the hierarchy.
In an interview with SANSAD TV, the Union minister stated that Modi is not afraid to take political risks for choices in the national interest and that he has made difficult decisions for the sake of the nation. In response to a query about whether Modi is an authoritarian leader who makes all choices on his own, Shah defined the prime minister as a "democratic leader."

According to Shah, he is a highly patient listener and values any worthy recommendations, regardless of the person's title. "...I have extensively observed Modi and his working style. I've never seen such a patient listener as him. Whatever the topic, he carefully listens to everyone and speaks only when necessary before making a sound conclusion. "He makes choices patiently after hearing recommendations from everyone, including a low-level official or worker," added the home minister.
Underlining that Modi does not impose his decisions, Shah added, "Those who have worked with him or at times there are critics also among those who worked with you, they all would agree that the Union Cabinet never functioned in such a democratic way as it is being run democratically with Modi ji being the prime minister."
According to Shah, Modi insists on discipline, thus details of some meetings, which are supposed to be private due to their timing, are not made public. The home minister emphasised that choices in all forums are made after extensive deliberation.

Modi, according to Shah, has always maintained that he is in power to transform the country for the better, not only manage the government. As a result, according to the minister, he does not hesitate to take tough and hazardous decisions against the party's followers if they are in the best interests of the nation and the people.
Shah cited Modi's accomplishments during his 20-year public career, particularly his leadership as Gujarat chief minister and prime minister at crucial junctures.
Shah stated that certain opposition parties believe it is their leadership's birthright to be in power in response to the opposition.
Modi, on the other hand, claims to have transformed this by emphasising people-centric and nation-first politics. Shah stated that he would inform friends from these opposition parties who criticise the administration's programmes that corruption in the current government has been exposed.
