Coronavirus: India reports 38,948 new COVID-19 cases; lowest fatalities reported in 167 days

India reported 38,948 fresh Covid-19 cases and 219 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of Covid-19 cases to 3,30,27,621, while the death toll climbed to 4,40,752, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The active cases have declined to 4,04,874 comprising 1.23% of the total infections. Kerala logged 26,701 cases, of the total new infections recorded in the last 24 hours.

A total of 43,903 discharges in the last 24 hours has pushed total recoveries to 3.21 crore. While the national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.44%, the ministry said.

According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, 531,468,867 samples were tested for Covid-19 up to September 5. Of these, 1,410,649 samples were tested yesterday.  

So far, 68.46 crore vaccine doses have been administered under the nationwide vaccination drive that commenced on January 16 this year.
