Virat Kohli Achieves Another IPL Career Milestone

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star batter Virat Kohli recently achieved a milestone of becoming the first player to complete 9000 runs in IPL during the 2026 clash against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Monday, April 27.

With his unbeaten 23-run innings in RCB’s successful 76-run chase, Kohli’s IPL run tally went up to 9,012 runs, including 8 centuries and 66 fifties, at an average of 40.05 and a strike rate of 133.80 in 275 matches. The veteran batter remains the only batter to date to complete 8000 and 9000 runs in the history of IPL.

As Virat Kohli achieved two unprecedented milestones in IPL, the RCB star batter has now moved within striking distance of another historic landmark, with a 10,000-run feat emerging as the next big target in his illustrious IPL career, depending on his continued form and longevity in the tournament.

At the end of the IPL 2022 season, Virat Kohli aggregated 6624 runs, including 5 centuries and 44 fifties, at an average of 36.19 and a strike rate of 129.14 in 223 matches. From 2023 to 2025, the star batter has scored 639, 741, and 657 at strikes of 139.82, 154.70, and 144.71, respectively, in three successive seasons.

Across three seasons, Kohli has aggregated 2037 runs, including 3 centuries and 19 fifties, at an average of 56.58 and a strike rate of 146.54 in 44 matches. Kohli in IPL 2026

Virat Kohli has continued his fine form in the ongoing IPL season, carrying on his rhythm and momentum from the previous three editions of the tournament, while consistently contributing valuable runs at the top of the order for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

In 8 matches so far, Kohli has registered the scores of 69, 28, 32, 50, 49, 19, 81, and 23, aggregating 351 runs, including three fifties, at an average of 58.50 and a strike rate of 162.50. The consistency has been intact since IPL 2023, highlighting Kohli’s strong late-career form with sustained high scoring and improved strike rate for RCB in the ongoing season.

How Kohli’s Season May Unfold?

As Virat Kohli crossed the 350-run mark in the IPL 2026 and the 9000-run milestone in the league, he is expected to continue playing a key role for RCB, maintaining his form as one of the most consistent batters in the tournament this season.

With six league matches left and averaging 43.88 after 8 games, Kohli would roughly be between 264 and 270 runs, taking his total season tally to around 610–620 runs if he maintains consistency. If RCB qualifies for the playoffs, three additional matches, including the final, could take him to around 700–740 runs for the season

At the end of the IPL 2026, Kohli’s overall IPL tally could be around 9,380 to 9,400 runs, depending on how many runs he adds in the remaining matches. Which means Virat Kohli is unlikely to complete 10,000 IPL runs in the ongoing season.

Can Kohli Complete 10,000 IPL Runs in 2027?

As Virat Kohli is unlikely to complete the 10,000-run mark in the ongoing IPL season, the milestone will depend on his continuation in the league and sustained performance across the next edition.

Assuming that Kohli aggregates 9,400 IPL runs at the 2026 edition of the tournament, the star batter would require around 600 more runs to reach the 10,000-run milestone, which is achievable in a full IPL season if he maintains his form and fitness. However, the age factor is likely to play a role in determining his workload, match involvement, and overall output across the season.

Since Kohli will be 38 in IPL 2027, workload and form will decide if he can push past the 10,000-run mark. It remains to be seen whether Virat Kohli can push himself to achieve an elusive record in IPL history.
