Some of WWE’s greatest finishing moves weren’t planned, they happened by accident. From Damian Priest to Drew McIntyre, here are five iconic finishers that were created by mistake!
Some of the most iconic finishing moves in WWE history weren’t carefully crafted in training but happened purely by accident. Whether it was a mistimed strike, a slip off the ropes, or an improvised counter, these moves became top finishers for the superstars who stumbled upon them. Here are five such finishing moves.
#5 Damian Priest - South of Heaven
Damian Priest, while training in small circles of wrestling, found out his current finishing move. During the ECW days, the wrestler was practicing the chokeslam move. However, while trying to lift a big guy, he fell down but somewhat delivered the move. South of Heaven is close to chokeslam, but it involves a different technique where the finish falls down as well to smash the opponent flat with power.
#4 Trick Williams - Trick Shot
Trick Williams, while in a local wrestling match, discovered his running knee finishing move. The wrestler, out of anger, ran to his opponent and spontaneously hit his knee to the forehead of his opponent. After the kick went in, the crowd erupted with cheer, indicating that the finishing move was an instant hit.

#3 Harley Race - Diving Headbutt
Race in the 1980s created the controversial Diving Headbutt. In a match, he climbed to the corner ropes and was trying to hit a splash. However, the wrestler slipped and hit his head rather than the chest, landing on the opponent’s head. For years, wrestlers have used the move, but now it is a serious no-go. Not only does the Diving Headbutt risk serious injury to the opponent, but also the finisher as well.
#2 Barren Corbyn - End of Days
Barren Corbyn in the performance center was just having fun with his friends. The wrestler was going to use the DDT move against his opponent. Instead, he caught him in the air, moved forward, and then went down while holding the upper body of the opponent. Corbyn instantly loved what he did, and thus came one of the stylish-looking moves of modern wrestling.
#1 Drew MacIntyre - Glamour Kick
Drew MacIntyre, in his early days of wrestling was trying to kick his opponent. However, due to his tight leather pants, he had to move his other leg as well. When he went for the kick, he lost his balance awkwardly while also moving his other feet. The kick went right on the face of the opponent. While looking at the footage, MacIntyre loved what he created by accident.
